An article about recent Manhattan automobile dealership bankruptcy, "Low-Overhead Auto Brokers Are Changing the Game for Traditional Dealerships, "Crain's New York Business reported on growing pressures in a changing automotive retail landscape. Traditional dealers are facing competition from growing numbers of automotive leasing brokers, who market themselves on the web.
Says Eric Snyder, who handled both recent dealership bankruptcies, "Manufacturers don't really care -- they're moving the industry. But for dealers, [selling to brokers] puts them between a rock and a hard place. And it slowly, slowly erodes the meaning behind the franchise."
